A long time ago, there’s a large, single nation of all humanity and they all speak a single language, the old language. There were no other nations, as they’re united as one society. All on Earth, one nation, one language.

And then they journeyed from the east, where they found a plain to dwell in. From there, they built a city to live in.

But then, they decided to build a tower with the ambition of the top reaching the heaven where God sit. However, God saw the tower and literally shattered the old language into many different kinds, so they can’t communicate with each other.

And that’s one possible reason why there are many different languages today on Earth.

[Then, his voice sound more casual and lighthearted.]

So what do you think? [If anyone can see it, there’s a small quirk of a smile.] Are they arrogant or just ambitious? What about God’s judgement? Justified or overreacting?

[And old story, one that might sound familiar to people depending on where they heard it from.]

Ahhh I haven't heard that story before... Is that really one of the possible reasons for it?

Yeah, that's one possible reason. God have a lot of power, so it's not out of the question.

I see... But why did He do that? [I mean, He probably had a good reason to but... from how the story sounded, it didn't really seem like the people were doing anything bad, were they..?]

Some say it's because He's angry or afraid.

Really? How come..?

Humans have a lot of potential to do great stuff. He could be afraid how that affect Him.

Ahh, I see... If that's the case, then I can see where He's coming from. I think..

Even if you can understand that, does that make it fair?

Mmm... Maybe not... [She doesn't sound too sure though; it's kind of strange to be thinking about Him like this, after all.] What do you think?

[He's quiet for a moment. This is about his enemy, after all.] ...I think He overreacts too much. He should've try talking with them.

When you put it that way, I think I agree.. The people may have not intended to affect or hurt Him in any way, so... It probably would've been best if they discussed it.

[If only he can do that. Alas, their positions and viewpoints clash.] It would be...but it's in the past.

A tree...? How come? [What did a tree do... But hey, it beats cannibalistic stories--]

It's the world tree with great knowledge. So it declared that it can protect all of humanity and life, so a god came down and tear it apart. The branches fell to earth and caused different languages to come out.

He attacked it just because it said it would protect humans? That's kind of sad... [How cruel..!]

Mm... Pride is a big thing back then. [Still is, these days.]

I see... It is really important, but I don't think people should harm others for it...

Yeah...but people can get carried away with their pride.

That's true... Aside from that though, they really are interesting stories and ways to describe our languages.

Most people love thinking up stories to explain anything. [Before SCIENCE comes along.] Know any stories like that?

[Hmm...] Well, some people say that they can see an image of a rabbit on the moon. So I know of a folklore that explains that... Does that count?

[Hm...] Yeah, that one counts. Mind telling me that?

Sure! I could be wrong about some of it though, since I don't remember it completely well, but...

In the story, there's a monkey, a fox, and a bunny. An old man asked them for food, so the monkey gathered a bunch of fruit, and the fox stole food. Since the bunny could only get grass, it gave itself to the man. It turned out that the man was a deity of some sorts, and since he was so touched by the rabbit's actions, he drew the bunny on the moon! So that's why some people say that the craters on it resemble a rabbit.

Even in the song of the Big Dango Family the moon rabbit is mentioned! [So the story is very relevant to her interests--]
